PROJECT GREENSTORM™

In response to the rapidly expanding efforts to regulate activities that contribute to global warming and to achieve energy independence, Duval & Stachenfeld initiated PROJECT GREENSTORM.  This multi-practice-group approach, led by Patrick Duval and Andy Stephenson, assists our clients in addressing and taking advantage of the corporate sustainability challenges and opportunities resulting from initiatives to control global warming and realize energy independence.

The initial focus of PROJECT GREENSTORM is to:

  • forecast and evaluate the impact of global warming and energy independence     initiatives on businesses, industries and organizations, and

  • develop strategies for addressing the challenges and seizing the opportunities that will be created by these initiatives.

It is difficult to predict the full impact that the gathering “greenstorm” will have on businesses—it could move much more quickly than currently anticipated—and it has the potential to be as transformative as the industrial revolution.  As recently noted by Goldman Sachs, "climate change is one of the most significant environmental challenges of the 21st century and is linked to other important issues such as economic growth and development, poverty alleviation, access to clean water, and adequate energy supplies."

According to the new book—Hot Flat and Crowded:  Why We Need A Green Revolution – And How It Can Renew America—“in this new world, governments and companies that take the lead [in developing new energy technology] will find themselves with the single most valuable competitive advantage of our time.”  And, as noted by the Harvard Business Review, "businesses that continue to sit on the sideline will be badly handicapped relative to those that are now devising strategies to reduce risk and find competitive advantage in a warming, carbon constrained world."

There will be winners and losers, and organizations that get their strategy right will find vast opportunities to not only profit, but also create social good on a global scale.  Duval & Stachenfeld’s PROJECT GREENSTORM has committed a variety of corporate, environmental, real estate and litigation resources to help businesses and other organizations keep an eye on the approaching “greenstorm” so they can effectively forecast the risks and take advantage of the opportunities that will inevitable arise from the storm.
