J. Andrew Stephenson is chair of the Firm’s Environmental Practice Group and a member of the Litigation Practice Group and Transactional Practice Group.  He also serves as co-chair of Project Greenstorm—a multi-practice group initiative to evaluate and forecast the impact of global warming, sustainability and energy independence policies on businesses, industries and organizations. 

 

Mr. Stephenson is an environmental lawyer with over 17 years of environmental litigation, transactional and counseling experience representing public and privately held companies, non-profit organizations and municipalities.  His practice includes climate change and sustainability, air, water, wetlands, solid and hazardous waste, pesticides, CERCLA, RCRA, ISRA, CTA, civil and administrative enforcement actions and proceedings, environmental impact assessment, permitting and regulatory counseling, site remediation, brownfields, acquisition and disposition of environmentally stressed properties, real property project development counseling, environmental due diligence and agreement negotiations in M&A and bond financing transactions, and drafting and negotiating regulatory agreements for chemical industry clients.

 

Prior to joining the Firm in 2006, Mr. Stephenson was head of the environmental practice at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP and was an environmental associate at Beveridge & Diamond, P.C.

 

Mr. Stephenson graduated from SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry at Syracuse University with a B.S., magna cum laude, in 1987 and from Pace University School of Law with a J.D., cum laude, in 1991.  At Pace Law School, Mr. Stephenson was Executive Editor of the Pace Law Review, and member of the National Moot Court Competition Team and was a Felix H. Kent Scholar.

 

Mr. Stephenson is licensed in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey.
