Christopher M. Gorman joined the Firm in 2004 and is a member of the Real Estate Practice Group, the Distressed Real Estate Practice Group, the Corporate Practice Group, and the Hotels and Resorts Practice Group.
Mr. Gorman has developed an expertise in many principle areas of commercial real estate law, particularly joint venture agreements (representing both money partners and operating partners), acquisitions, sales, financings and restructurings relating to all types of commercial real estate transactions. Mr. Gorman has developed a reputation as a highly skilled attorney who is creative and practical in order to help his clients achieve their business goals.
Mr. Gorman's recent transactions include the following: (i) the acquisition of a portfolio of shopping centers located across several mid-Atlantic states and the assumption of the existing mortgage financing; (ii) the acquisition, restructuring, financing and eventual sale of a portfolio of self-storage centers located throughout California and valued at approximately $100 million to a publicly-traded company; (iii) the acquisition of a significant interest in the owner of approximately 100 nursing home and assisted living facilities throughout the nation valued at approximately $1 billion; (iv) the acquisition of a mortgage loan that is secured by an office building in Phoenix, Arizona; (v) the recapitalization of a portfolio of multi-family apartment buildings located in New York City; (vi) the acquisition and financing of a portfolio of grocery stores located throughout New England; (vii) the acquisition of partially entitled and raw land throughout the Southeast and Western United States; (viii) the acquisition of a B-Note Interest, secured by multi-family apartment buildings in San Francisco, California and (ix) the acquisition, development and financing of a former factory site in Bronx County, New York.
Most recently, Mr. Gorman has worked extensively in all aspects of distressed real estate. In particular, Mr. Gorman has represented both sellers and purchasers of whole loan interests (as well as varying interests in the “capital stack”), borrowers in workouts and restructurings and lenders in workouts and restructurings with other co-lenders as well as borrowers.
Mr. Gorman received his B.S. (magna cum laude) in 2001 from Providence College and his J.D. (cum laude) from Fordham Law School in 2004, where he was a member of the Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law. Mr. Gorman is admitted to practice in the State of New York.
